Lowe House Project Artist Residency Program in Tubac Arizona is looking for a summer intern to augment outreach to Mexican artists for participation in the on-going Rio Compartido/Shared River program—an exhibit of creative work on the Borderlands cultural and environmental heritage of the Santa Cruz River –a waterway shared by both Mexico and the United States. The exhibit will be a held at the Historic Lowe House as a complementary event during the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling WaterWays exhibit to be held at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park from October thru December, 2019.
Successful applicants must be self-starters and “people oriented.” Preferred skills include Spanish and English language proficiency, social media and marketing capacities, knowledge of the Ambos Nogales Borderlands environment and cultural heritage and appreciation for creative individuals working in varied mediums. Successful applicant will assist LHP director with outreach to additional artists, particularly those within the Ambos Nogales region, to encourage participation in the Rio Compartido/Shared River program. The successful applicant will work in partnership with the Friends of the Santa Cruz River to enhance and develop new programming with other Ambos Nogales Borderlands organizations. These programs will serve to educate and instruct participating artists and the broader public regarding the cultural and environmental significance of the bi-national Santa Cruz River. Successful applicant might be called upon to oversee the artist residency facility from time to time in the director’s absence and assist with minimal upkeep and maintenance of the premises.
Internship opportunities are from June through September and include accommodations in the Historic Lowe House and a stipend of $500 a month.
